Dear friends, family, and loyal customers,
I'm excited to announce a special shoppable retrospective on August 7th, 8th, and 9th at The 108 on Main Street in Narrowsburg.
Part archive sale, part sample sale, it will include clothing from my very first collection from 1999 to the present, alongside one-of-a-kind pieces never before seen. Showcasing unique artworks and objects, there will also be furniture upholstered in some of my fabric collections and artifacts from 422, all for sale.
Longtime colleague and sales director Missy Mettle will be there to assist, along with many other friends, and I am very grateful to the artists Jorge Columbo and Amy Yoes for hosting this event in their wonderful space.
Narrowsburg has been a special place for me ever since the early nineties, when I began working for artist and designer J. Morgan Puett. I have many fond memories of me and Pamela Mayer dipping old shoes bought on Main Street in beeswax for Morgan’s Wooster Street fashion shows. Morgan generously allowed me to start my business in the basement of her company, Shack Inc, and my designs later found a home at Mayer Wasner, the store Pamela opened in Narrowsburg.
Thinking back to the creative impulses behind that beginning, it’s time for me to embark upon my next endeavor. I will be leaving Franklin, NY this fall to attend grad school in pursuit of an MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art. I will not be closing my business but following the progression of my practice, allowing myself this structured time and community to explore new processes and materials.
I am grateful to all of you who have witnessed, worn, and supported the many different iterations of my work. I hope you can join us at the shoppable retrospective representing over a quarter-century of wearable research and experimentation, and I look forward to sharing the transformations of the next twenty-five years.
Sincerely,
Gary
