I had the opportunity to collaborate with my long-time friend Alex Bovaird Sprouse, who styled and worked with me on my fashion shows and sales. She has since become a well-known costume designer and has been creating costumes for "The White Lotus" since the show's beginning. During our conversation, she mentioned her recent visit to the Wallace Collection, where we discovered a 14th-century mosque lamp from Cairo that we thought would be perfect for the Buddhist owner of the hotel in Thailand.
I also collaborated with Gina Gregorio to recreate the artwork on the lamp as a repeated pattern on silk shantung. We created several draped versions but ultimately decided to use a tunic shape that actress Petravadi Mejudhon was already wearing to lessen the odds of it not working.
Since my neighbor Diana is of a similar size as Mejudhon, she stepped in as a fit model. Here is the garment before it was sent to Thailand last year.
I'm thrilled to see that it made it onto the show!
