Last Winter, while traveling to Vermont, I bought this needlepoint settee from France in an antique store near Burlington. It was in pretty bad shape and covered up with various dolls and maps, but I was really captivated by the black background and faded motifs. I asked second-generation upholsterer Brian Kirk to help me remove the needlepoint. I don't know what I will do with it, but the back of the needlepoint tells another story.
It's the beginning of a conversation, but due to the amount of damage to the fabric, it's doubtfully one of conservation or preservation. More to come!
